Wimps Need Not Apply: A Call to Writers

All right, I’m done playing nice.  The interweb gods haven’t exactly shined on me when it comes to getting people to write for Death Ensemble.  But I’m running a contest, on its last day today, and I know people are reading;  otherwise, no one would have entered it.  And I know there are plenty of people out there who have strong opinions on horror, and want to have them heard.  Well I’m now challenging you to take me up on one such opportunity.

Here’s the deal.  I started off buying a Slayer shirt, then writing one convention report and ended up at my last gig for 3 years.  When that ended badly, I then went and started my own damn website.  It’s been a year, and I can’t write 98.6% of the material on the site.  DE’s audience is growing, and it wants to read people who have interesting perspectives on horror.  It’s my mission to make sure DE is their vital source for just that purpose.

Wanna hear about some perks that come with the job?  I get into conventions free more often than not.  I get to interview horror celebrities.  I get to review horror flicks and people read my stuff.  Now I’m not guaranteeing that you’ll get the same opportunities my charming self does, but if you’ve got some ambition and some writing talent, the chance to write for Death Ensemble is what you make of it.  And if you want to join us, you’ve got to take me up on my challenge.

It’s real easy.  Just follow the steps from this earlier “Call to Writers” post that the whole world ignored:

Death Ensemble is looking to expand our staff.  We’d like to get some fresh new voices involved, with interesting perspectives about the genre we all love so much.  This is an opportunity for talented writers to become staffers for a popular website.  Though we can’t pay, there’s the prospect to be read by thousands of fans worldwide, and this could of course lead to other things down the line.

If you’re interested, please send a writing sample to philfasso@deathensemble.com.  We’ll read every email we get, and respond to those we deem the best.  You can write a review of your favorite horror movie or book, your take on a horror convention, a piece about some aspect of the genre that’s important to you, or anything that excites you about horror.  If you consider yourself a talented writer who would like a chance at being published on a popular website, this is for you.

Note the nifty italics.  I could reprint it in those because I run a website.

So come write for me.  You know you want to. It’ll be fun.  We’ll play in the sandbox, nobody will kick sand in your eyes, and you’ll feel famous when you do your first celebrity interview.

One Slayer shirt started me on this path.  Now it’s your chance.  Take hold of your own dismembered destiny, and see what you’re worth.
