For many, Jamie Lee Curtis is the golden grail of autographs. For years she’s done book signings, sometimes signing horror stuff, sometimes not. Apparently she made some comments a few years ago that she’s past her horror thing, and doesn’t want to acknowledge that anymore. People have gotten the idea, as Chad stated in this month’s You Suck! feature, that Jamie Lee Curtis hates you.
All of that changed in one email.
I got a hot lead in a text from one of my sources two nights back. The text said the horror world was abuzz, because JLC was getting ready to hit the convention scene. Through a series of texts, he told me Sean Clark from Convention All-Stars was in negotiations to get her on the circuit.
I would have printed this the other night, or yesterday. It’s a scoop, and none of the other big horror sites have reported it as yet. But Death Ensemble is all about integrity, and I don’t post idle rumors. Even if they’re really juicy. So I sent Sean Clark an email. If he didn’t reply, I wasn’t going to post anything.
But now I can confirm that it’s true: JLC will be testing the waters at a convention soon. As I was about to leave for work early this morning, I looked at my Gmail, and saw that Sean had indeed replied. Here’s what he said:
She has agreed to do ONE convention. We are in the process of figuring out which one that will be.
So there you have it.
Sean does a fine job of bringing the many horror stars in his stable to the people, at cons all over the country. He kindly takes suggestions through email (I can testify, as he and I had a brief discussion about Kathleen Kinmont months back), and generally gets back to fans. Getting JLC to agree to one con is the equivalent of moving mountains.
I’ll leave it at this: Once horror stars hit the circuit, they tend to stay on the circuit. Especially if they make good money, and big names can rack up a small fortune by stting in a chair for a few hours signing stuff. I can’t guarantee this will happen with JLC, but this could mean she’ll eventually end up at a con near you.
After all, every HALLOWEEN fan deserves one good autograph.
